Monday was a Bank holiday and we spent it with my dear friend from work (AUT) Robyn. She is over here for 6 months and has found herself a great job in a University library over here – not easy arriving in a country with nothing organised but just a desire to make changes [...]

On Sunday Dad got up at 5.30am to catch the car ferry to Holland for his course. Turns out he was an hour and a half early getting to the ferry - mum says serves him right for being too punctual.
J, P, mum and I caught the tube into town. We looked at the Houses of [...]

The first day we arrived Joseph and Dad went to a football match (Spurs v Sunderland). Uncle Pat’s friend had got them posh seats so Joseph had to dress up and he wore Dad’s clothes. He had to pull the trousers up under his armpits and the shirt went down to his knees. I wish dad [...]

I had my 12th birthday in Dublin.
We were staying in an appartment on the banks of the River Liffey. It is the best accommodation we have had becuase we had a TV and little kitchen. Mum was very excited that we had a washing machine (but it turned out to be broken)! For the free [...]

Now in London, Islington, with my mother’s friend Morag again.
On our way over from Ireland to England we passed through Wales and Shropshire, where my Godmother, Aunty May, now lives in a rest home. She is 5 years older than my father, so born in 1918. The rest home is in a tiny village accessable only by single, [...]
Leaving Ireland

We have enjoyed our two weeks in Ireland and in Scotland – despite it being the wettest August on record (I am sure they don’t say that every year… do they? Hard when camping, so we have reverted to hostelling on the worst nights).
The Cliffs of Moher we experienced as the Cliffs of Mists – but stubborningly [...]

The Flaherty castle
Tomorrow is my birthday (Ellen).
Just outside of Galway is our family castle which stupid Peter O’Flaherty gave away to Heritage Ireland in the 1950s. He must be a distant relation. We want to reclaim the castle.
We went to visit it this morning. It was really cool and it was five storeys high [...]

We stay the night in Edinburgh (no rooms in Glasgow for that night) and head to Glasgow early in the morning. First tho, the children are very excited to get the free breakfast on offer at the hostel. Although it is one serving of cereal per person, Patrick, whose favourite food it is, can’t be [...]

It is 7 days til my birthday and I am worried that mum hasn’t bought anything yet.
Today we got up to a free breakfast of 5 bowls of cholate cereal each and 3 glasses of juice at the hostel.
Full up, we headed off to the Edinburgh Fringe festival in the centre of town – on [...]

We are having trouble keeping up to date with our blogs. Not so with our diaries – our children rejoice in writing them – as you can imagine! (I keep them in line however, tho I have failed with Joseph who is falling back on photojournalism)
We are so used to having internet access whenever and [...]
